The Rouge Wave: 100 most beautiful words
Tuesday, February 3, 2009

The Rouge Wave has a list with the 100 most beautiful words in the English language.

This list did not include those simple words as “cat” or “house”. It was full of those fancy, less used words as “onomatopoeia” and “loquacious”. But also words that I’m familiar with like “porcelain”, “lithe” and “laughter”.

Is it just me who find “hymeneal” an unknown word? Is the list full of familiar words to native English speaking people?

Well, it does not hurt to widen the vocabulary.

And the list got me thinking.

I have had a Saturday theme for 20 weeks now. I’m running out of music from YouTube. If I’m going to keep the theme, then I want it to really be music that has meant something to me. Isn’t 20 a good number to end this story at?

Maybe I should have a word each Saturday instead?

Will I make a fool of myself? Do I have to be a professor to pull that off?

I cannot allow myself to be afraid to use my tool – written language.

I have a very limited vocabulary from my head injury. To say the least I have a weak command of English.

This would be more helpful to me than the music.

I haven't noticed that you have - as you say - a weak command of English. But it must be tough for you. I can't imagine what it would be like.

Thank you for encouraging me to change my theme.

My music theme has gained little interest.

I'm more simplistic by nature - hymeneal sounds, well, kinda vulgar. :)) I prefer beautiful words like "coexistence" and "delight."

You'd not make a fool of yourself. I'd enjoy it!

Yes! Go ahead, experiment with changing themes to words! All writers love anything about words. Besides, with a blog, you can go in whichever direction you choose. I'm all for the "word" idea!
